Shockwave Therapy uses radial shockwaves to trigger biological effects leading to faster and permanent healing and regeneration of body tissues. The radial shockwave carries high energy into the body’s painful areas through a transmitter at the end of an applicator via compressed air.
The energy transmitted can promote repair and regeneration in bones, tendons, muscles and other soft tissues. It is used for sub-acute, sub-chronic and chronic conditions such as myofascial trigger points and tendinopathies (plantar fasciitis, tennis elbow, Achilles tendinopathy). It can also improve activation of muscle and connective tissue improving circulation and muscle tone.
It is recommended that patients trial at least 6-8 sessions of shockwave therapy with approximately 4 days in between sessions to see a good result. Many patients notice a difference after just one session reporting benefits such as reduced pain, improved tissue healing, improved blood flow and reduced muscle spasm in painful areas.
